I’d been wanting to make a facial soap for some time, and sometimes an idea will roll around in my thoughts for a while before it comes to fruition. This was the case with Renew. I wanted a nourishing soap that wasn’t too drying or rough, so I started researching natural soap additives that benefit the face. I found out that activated charcoal draws impurities from the skin and that clay can smooth and refine the skin. Natural powders will nourish skin with antioxidants and can also act as an exfoliate. Flax seed powder is one which is also rich in omega 3, 6, and 9 essential fatty acids. Rosehip powder is another which also contains a high concentration of vitamin C. Using these colorful additives also meant they could be the colorants in the soap. I also wanted the soap to be in a shape that could be rubbed right on the face or used in a soap bag. For that, I thought a circular bar would work. Then, for the fragrance, I wanted something refreshing and uplifting. So, I blended litsea cubeba (citrus), lavender, and peppermint essential oils. It is a lightly fragranced soap that smells herbaceous and minty. I formulated this soap for skin that is normal/dry/mature, and the ingredients are nourishing but mild. After lathering a bit on my face, I let the soap stay there for a few minutes before rinsing. This way, the active ingredients have a chance to penetrate and release their benefits. Your face will be clean, soft, and fresh. This fun and exotic design is a funnel pour into a column mold which makes every bar different, and no two sides alike. Enjoy!
